Johanns, Metsger, more to speak at Caucus

NAFCU is gearing up for its annual Congressional Caucus, slated for Sept. 9-12 in Washington, D.C., and the speakers who have signed on so far include Sen. Mike Johanns, R-Neb., and NCUA Board Member Rick Metsger.

The conference will be held at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel and will feature sessions and discussions on the most important legislative and regulatory issues facing the credit union industry today, and on techniques for effectively communicating about those concerns with legislators and regulators.

Johanns is a member of the Senate Banking Committee and has introduced legislation that would change the definition of “points and fees” under CFPB’s qualified mortgage/ability-to-repay rule, lessening the regulatory burden for financial institutions.

Other speakers confirmed so far include:

  • Stuart Rothenberg, editor and publisher of the Rothenberg Political Report and columnist for Roll Call, who will give the keynote address;
  • Reps. Bill Huizenga, R-Mich., Blaine Luetkemeyer, R-Mo., Mick Mulvaney, R-S.C., and Brad Sherman, D-Calif., who all serve on the House Financial Services Committee;
