McConnell files cloture on Calabria nomination to lead FHFA

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) filed cloture today on the nomination of Mark Calabria to serve as director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA). This sets up a Senate vote on confirmation in the coming days.

Calabria is currently the chief economist for Vice President Mike Pence. The Senate Banking Committee voted to advance his nomination in February by a 13-12 vote.

CUNA wrote to the Senate Banking Committee prior to Calabria’s testimony, calling on the FHFA to “build upon and strengthen” existing partnerships between the FHFA and credit unions, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and Federal Home Loan Banks.
