Michigan Credit Union League’s Corkery talks credit union difference

Michigan Credit Union League President/CEO Patty Corkery appeared on Good Day Northern Michigan earlier this month to talk about the credit union difference and more. Corkery started by illustrating the credit union difference and what it means for members.

“Any money the credit union makes—being a not-for-profit—they’re not distributing that to shareholders, they’re taking the money and bringing it back inside to offer members lower rates and fees,” Corkery said. “Credit unions have so much to offer, and it’s really easy to join a credit union.”

Michigan credit unions saved members more $499.9 million in direct household benefits last year, or $179 per household.

Host Sid Simone said she was a credit union member, and that she feels “like they take care of me,” and has noticed the difference between credit unions and banks.
