Moving forward as one

Our strength does not lie in going it alone, nor in reacting to every external pressure. Instead, it lies in working together with intention.

Unity

Co-author: Patrick Conway, Board Chair of the American Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL)

Credit unions are stronger when we come together. We’ve seen this in impactful ways over the past few months, as well as throughout the years of building our strong partnerships. As leaders of America’s Credit Unions and the American Association of Credit Union Leagues, we are proud to witness the growing unity across our industry—a unity rooted in collaboration, strategic focus, and an unwavering commitment to serving our members.

Strength in strategic collaboration

Our strength does not lie in going it alone, nor in reacting to every external pressure. Instead, it lies in working together with intention. America’s Credit Unions and the League System are shaping a future where our advocacy is sharper, our reach is broader, and our ability to protect and promote the movement is stronger.

This is not about chasing headlines or stoking fear. It’s about advancing meaningful solutions that support credit unions’ mission to improve members’ financial well-being and strengthen the communities we serve.

A unified voice, heard when it matters most

Credit unions face an evolving set of challenges—from regulatory pressures to competitive market dynamics. But with unity, we amplify our influence. Speaking with a single, strong voice allows us to engage policymakers proactively, ensure the industry is understood, and, when necessary, react decisively in moments that matter most.

Our advocacy must remain both proactive and reactive—anticipating the road ahead while standing ready to respond with clarity and conviction. America’s Credit Unions and the League System exemplify real unity, not passive alignment. And by staying disciplined in this approach, we ensure our voice is not just loud but also effective.

Focused, intentional leadership

This unity is not accidental. It is the result of deliberate focus on shared goals, intentional collaboration, and a deep respect for the diverse voices that make up our movement. From local credit unions to state Leagues to national leaders, each perspective enriches the whole.

That collaboration is lived out through weekly coordination calls, monthly strategy sessions, and the dedicated work of task forces that bring together leaders from across the country to tackle emerging issues with speed and precision. Beyond the virtual, we continue to invest in in-person engagements—whether at League roundtables, national gatherings, like the Government Affairs Conference and Congressional Caucus, or advocacy fly-ins—because nothing builds trust and alignment like sitting across the table and solving challenges together.

Together, through these ongoing touchpoints and intentional structures, we ensure the credit union system is equipped not only to navigate change but to shape it.

Looking ahead

Our promise to credit unions and their members is simple: we will lead with unity, strategy, and integrity. We will not engage in inflammatory rhetoric, but we will not shrink from hard truths either. When the stakes are highest, we will be ready—aligned, collaborative, and speaking with one voice that cannot be ignored.

The future of credit unions is not just about weathering challenges—it is about seizing opportunities. And with unity and intention, we are confident that the best days for our movement, and for the members we serve, are still ahead.
