NAFCU Caucus Day 2: Metsger, Donnelly, Cruz and more

NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus general sessions resume today with remarks on credit union issues from more than a dozen lawmakers and regulators, including NCUA Chairman Rick Metsger, former presidential candidate and Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Sens. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., and Ben Sasse, R-Neb.

Metsger has served on the NCUA Board since 2014 and has served as chairman since May.

Donnelly and Sasse spearheaded a letter signed by 70 senators urging CFPB to grant credit unions relief from more rules through the bureau’s authority under the Dodd-Frank Act. Donnelly also serves on the Senate Banking Committee.

Cruz, a candidate in this past year’s Republican presidential primary, was also a signatory to the letter. Cruz also cosponsored NAFCU-backed legislation that would fight the Justice Department’s Operation Choke Point Initiative.
