Next Top Credit Union All Stars

As the 2012 edition of the CUES Next Top Credit Union Executive Competition moves into its final 15 stage, I got to reminiscing about the great experience I had during my time in the competition.

And I came up with an idea……as I watched Big Brother.

You see, my wife and I have a guilty pleasure.  That guilty pleasure is reality television.  If you watch as well, you’ve likely seen a common occurrence in most shows and that is bringing back “All Stars”.  This is where previous winners or good/bad personalities come back to help drive ratings.

So what about a Next Top Credit Union All Stars?

First let me say that ANYONE that applies to be in the competition IS an All-Star.  With that being said, only 5 people are given the privilege to receive additional development by being sponsored to attend the CUES CEO/Executive Team Network conference.  There they will be given 10 minutes on centre stage to truly shine, network with conference goers, attend awesome breakout sessions, and spend some quality time with the other finalists.

This is what I enjoyed most about attending the conference in Las Vegas last year.  Having competed along with Amanda, Jay, Alexia, and Josh, we will now carry that common bond together for rest of our lives.  I think as a group, we could really do some great things in the credit union system.

CUES and Currency Marketing have truly come up with an unbelievable opportunity for inspired young people in the credit union system.  They have invested money and time for the betterment of us.  I believe the finalists of the Next Top Credit Union Executive competition now need to pay that forward in the Next Top Credit Union All Stars.

I would lay it out much like a Collider Project from the Cooperative Trust.  We would seek out a common problem in credit unions (perhaps even ask CUES for their thoughts).  The finalists from the 2010, 2011, and 2012 would work together virtually in teams to come up with a solution and share with it with the CU world.  Maybe we could shuffle it up a bit by having the winners as captains and they pick the teams?  That could be a whole lot of fun!

Understanding that the 5 finalists for the 2012 edition of NTCUE will be a bit busy for the rest of the year, hopefully the NTCUE finalist alumni will support this idea to help build a critical mass to develop this program for launch in 2013.

To: Tina, Amy G, Jodi, Amy S., Ronaldo, Kelsey, Amanda, Jay, Alexia, and Josh…

Let’s give back to something that has given us so much.

Challenge laid.
