Nussle op-ed: August is time for powerful credit union advocacy
While members of Congress won’t be around Washington, D.C., much during the annual August recess, CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle told credit union stakeholders Monday that advocacy doesn’t take a month off.
In an op-ed appearing in CUInsight, Nussle encouraged the credit union system to stay engaged with lawmakers and take time to point out the credit union difference in their home districts.
“Five hundred and thirty-five members of Congress are opening up their district offices, holding town hall meetings and other events for constituents,” Nussle wrote. “Here’s a chance to meet with them face to face at home. I hope you’ll invite these elected representatives of ours to visit your credit union, meet your employees and see the credit union difference come to life through people helping people.”
Nussle noted that during his time in Congress (representing Iowa’s 2nd District from 1991 to 2003 and Iowa’s 1st District from 2003 to 2007), hearing from his constituents at home helped him better represent them upon returning to Capitol Hill.
