Onsite: Wednesday in the Big Easy at #CoopTHiNK 14

Did someone mention a national credit union branding campaign?  The big news Wednesday out of the #CoopThink conference was the launch of a consumer facing national credit union marketing campaign targeted at Millennials.

CO-OP Financial Services is unveiling “Empowering People. Amplifying Dreams,” a multi-faceted marketing program to promote credit unions to prospective members, targeting consumers born after 1980 and featuring singer/songwriter Daria Musk as a spokesperson.

Check out the first video in the campaign above.

The afternoon was focused on “Examining the Business Model”.  The featured speakers were Kate Feather, EVP and Director of the Customer Experience at PeopleMetrics and Ivan Askwith, producer and consultant in strategic planning and experience design for digital platforms.

Kate Feather’s made a case for a new business model based on the customers experience. A line that was tweeted often (#CoopThink) was “To say that customer experience is the same as customer service is to say that the safety net is the trapeze act. If you’ve used it, something has gone wrong.”

Ivan Askwith talked about how communities of fans come together around TV shows and movies.  Much like they did behind his record breaking Kickstarter campaign for the Veronica Mars movie.  He asked the question “could credit unions have a cult following?”  Can we build enthusiastic communities around our credit unions?

Kate and Ivan were joined on stage by CO-OP CEO Stan Hollen and CUNA President and CEO Bill Cheney for a THiNK it out session.  The theme was focusing on challenges facing credit unions that do want to change.

Don’t forget to follow live on Twitter at #CoopThink.  THiNK 14 wraps up Thursday.  THiNK 15 was announced and will be held at The Broadmoor in Colorado next year.
