PODCAST: An eventful summer

Ryan Donovan on recent advocacy wins for credit unions.

It’s been an eventful summer for Ryan Donovan, CUNA’s chief advocacy officer. Donovan led CUNA’s recent efforts supporting the passage of the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief and Consumer Protection Act.

Also known as S. 2155, the new law provides much-needed regulatory relief for credit unions. S. 2155 also represents a legislative victory at a time when not much gets done in Congress. This victory is a credit to people like Donovan who lead CUNA’s efforts to mobilize credit unions into one of Washington’s strongest lobbying voices.

It’s also a nod to credit unions and their members, who Washington lawmakers are typically willing to lend an open ear. Credit unions are among Washington’s good guys. Prior to joining CUNA, Donovan worked for the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues as director of federal government affairs. He also served on the congressional staffs of Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., and Rep. Richard A. Gephardt, D-Mo.
