It’s that time of year again! First Financial Federal Credit Union of Maryland is gearing up to award local high school students with over $150,000 in scholarships. The fast approaching student deadline for completed application packets is on, or before February 1st, 2018.
First Financial has a long history of assisting local students in the pursuit of higher education. Scholarships are made available to each high school within our field of membership. Additional scholarships are available to existing student members who attend schools outside of our field of membership.
Applicants are required to include an original essay, references, school and community activities, and maintain a 2.5 minimum GPA. Finalists will be selected by the credit union’s volunteer-based Scholarship Committee. Length of membership does not factor into the scholarship decision.
“We are proud to be able to offer students this opportunity to alleviate some financial stress while entering the next phase of life. Young adults are a tremendous asset to our community and should be recognized for their notable achievements, talents, and contributions,” remarked Cindy Jones, FFFCU Youth Outreach Manager.
First Financial FCU has a long-standing partnership with Baltimore and Carroll County Public Schools, as well as many area private schools. Since the program’s inception in 1998, First Financial FCU has awarded more than 400 scholarships to young adults totaling over $1.4 million.
