1st United Services Credit Union has Donated Over $7,000 to our 3 Winning East Bay Schools
Pleasanton, CA – September 29, 2011 – 1st USCU is committed to improving the quality of life for our members and the communities we serve across the East Bay and Tri-Valley areas. 1st USCU Smart & Healthy Communities initiatives provide support to a wide variety of worthwhile educational and healthcare programs in our local communities. Through our “Back to Schools” Challenge, over $7,000 was donated to three local schools – Golden Oak Montessori in Hayward, Washington High School in Fremont and Manzanita SEED Elementary in Oakland.
1st USCU Members and non-members were able to nominate a school or school program and tell us why their school or program was deserving of a donation. The schools received scores based on the number of nominations and the creativity of those nominations. Plus, the total number of new checking and loan accounts opened during the time period determined how much money was going to be donated.

1st Place
Golden Oak Elementary School, Hayward CA (931 Palisade Street)
Golden Oak Montessori School emphasizes independent learning, hands-on materials for a holistic education, and mixed-age classrooms to encourage mutual teaching.
2nd Place
Washington High School, Fremont CA (38442 Fremont Blvd)
Washington High School has a long history in the city of Fremont. Originally founded in 1892, the school proudly represents the tradition and contributions that its graduates have made to the Fremont community.
3rd Place
Manzanita SEED Elementary, Oakland CA (2409 East 27th Street)
SEED is an Expeditionary Learning School with a focus on language, culture and family-school integration.
