2011 Credit Union Cherry Blossom Run® Contributions to CMN Hospitals Reach $5 Million During Industry’s Ten-Year Sponsorship

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 1, 2011 – The 2011 Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run® will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2011. Organizers announced they have raised enough money this year to reach $5 million in total donations to Children’s Miracle Network since the credit union industry began sponsorship of the race 10 years ago.  The run’s prominence on Capitol Hill is illustrated by the 91 Members of Congress (including 19 Senators) who are honorary race chairs, representing over 30 states.

PSCU Financial Services is the lead business partner for the race. “We continue to invest in this event because we believe it is a way to obtain national attention for credit unions while helping children across the country obtain much-needed medical care. Because we underwrite the costs of the event, each credit union’s contributions are returned to local CMN hospitals in their community,” said Chuck Fagan, PSCU Financial Services’ Executive Vice President. He spoke at a press conference held today to promote the event.

“Involvement by credit unions across the country, in terms of volunteers and donations, continues to grow. We are both amazed and appreciative of the generosity demonstrated by credit unions and industry-oriented organizations,” said Juri Valdov, Chairman of Credit Union Miracle Day, the lead sponsor of the event.

The annual race, known as the Runner’s Rite of Spring®, is an international event attracting world class runners from across the globe. The run not only highlights the vital role credit unions play in the U.S. as trusted financial services providers, it also benefits Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the country. Children’s Miracle Network hospitals treat more than 17 million critically ill children every year.

The 2010 Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run involved 70 credit unions and 25 business partner organizations and CUSOs representing all 50 states. Nearly 15,000 runners participated in the run, including more than 622 legislators, aides and government employees.

Although the race is run in Washington, DC, runners and others from across the country have donated directly to children’s hospitals using the race’s online giving site www.cucherryblossomfundraising.org.
