4Front Foundation awards $30,000 in grants on Giving Tuesday to local organizations

Traverse City, MI (November 27, 2024) |

The 4Front Foundation is thrilled to announce its 2024 Grant Cycle recipients, awarding $30,000 to four impactful organizations making a difference in Northern Michigan. These grants will support programs that address critical needs in education, nature conservation, veteran support, and affordable housing.

  1. PoWeR! Book Bags – $10,000 Program Grant

The PoWeR! Book Bags Early Head Start program provides essential services for children ages 0-3 who face significant challenges, including low income, developmental delays, homelessness, or foster care placement. This grant will help the program continue to prepare these children for future success by fostering growth and learning while equipping families with the tools to support their development.

  1. Grass River Natural Area Playground – $10,000 Project Grant

To promote outdoor engagement and reduce screen time, the Grass River Natural Area will create a nature-inspired playground designed by experts in environmental education and landscape architecture. The project will provide a safe and imaginative space for children aged 6-12 to connect with nature and engage in creative play, reinforcing the community’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

  1. Veterans Serving Veterans Food Bank – $5,000 Operations Grant

Recognizing the growing demand for food assistance among veterans, this grant will enable Veterans Serving Veterans to distribute an additional 1,250 pounds of protein, such as hamburger and pork sausage, over the coming year. This critical support will help address food insecurity for 97 veterans per distribution date, with the potential to reach up to 130 active participants.

  1. Homestretch Nonprofit Housing – $5,000 Operations Grant

Homestretch provides affordable housing and tenant support services to individuals and families earning between $20,000 and $50,000 annually. This grant will fund the organization’s property manager, who ensures successful tenant placement and offers ongoing financial assistance and property management services to over 20 regional properties.

“The 4Front Foundation is honored to partner with these incredible organizations, each addressing vital needs in our community,” said Jess Oxnevad, Executive Director of the 4Front Foundation. “Our selection committee was thoughtful and thorough as we filed through the applications. We had over 70 applications submitted this year.”
