7 17 Credit Union partners with Habitat for Humanity of Portage County to better serve community

7 17 donates $4,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Portage County for ReStore truck

PORTAGE COUNTY, OH (September 19, 2023) — 7 17 Credit Union is proud to present Habitat for Humanity a check for $4,000 to help purchase another ReStore truck in order to keep doing the critical work they do in that county, to ensure the future of all residents. Habitat for Humanity of Portage County was awarded a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency – but needed additional matching funds locally to be able to utilize it. That’s when 7 17 Credit Union stepped in to help support them. The ReStore trucks serve Portage County by keeping recyclable items out of landfills.

The ReStore is an arm of Habitat for Humanity of Portage County. It is full of things to refurbish, remodel, renew, and redefine your home. They do so by taking in donations of new and nearly new building supplies, furniture, and appliances – and sell those at huge discount prices. It helps keep usable materials from going into landfills too. Habitat uses those very proceeds to build and rehab houses in Portage County for those in need of decent and affordable housing.

7 17 has made it their mission to help the communities we serve. The ReStore vehicle will be co-branded and will include the 7 17 logo alongside Habitat for Humanity’s logo. “This is really about capturing the idea of people helping people and we could not be more pleased to be a driving force for positive change,” said Gary Soukenik, President and CEO of 7 17 Credit Union.

“The 7 17 Credit Union donation means Habitat for Humanity of Portage County can purchase a new truck so they can continue to work with local families to build, improve, and preserve the idea of ‘home’ for hundreds of families a year,” said Habitat ReStore Manager, Bradley Knife. “We could not do what we do for residents in this area without the generous support of community-minded organizations like 7 17.”
