NILES, OH (May 6, 2025) |
As the weather warms up and baseball fans across the Valley get excited to enjoy America’s pastime, 7 17 Credit Union is proud to announce its exciting new partnership with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. This collaboration marks a significant milestone for both organizations as they join hands to help empower and support our local communities together.
“The Mahoning Valley Scrappers bring a vibrant element to our communities - symbolizing pride, community goodwill, and the preservation of high-level baseball in our region,” said John Demmler, President and CEO of 7 17 Credit Union. “That is why we are thrilled to announce we have become the Official Credit Union and Banking Partner of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. This partnership demonstrates our shared commitment to focus on communities, especially those that are underserved, while enhancing community outreach and improving the overall financial health of our region.”
Demmler added, “We love seeing the community come out and cheer for the home team. We’re excited about the partnership and being able to show and reward fans for their loyalty, because as we believe, banking with purpose leads to stronger communities.”
“To have the opportunity to build on the success of the relationship with 7 17 from last season and give us additional tools and resources to impact the community positively is so important to our organization,” said Jordan Taylor, Executive Vice President of HWS Baseball. “We are excited to partner with the Credit Union given the commitment they have demonstrated to the community.”
As part of this collaboration, 7 17 will offer exciting giveaways and special savings opportunities for guests at the ballpark with a year-round focus on financial wellness. For our youngest members, our fan favorite, Dollar Dog will engage with the children, announcing a revamped 7 17 Dollar Dog Club that will offer special incentives, including free tickets to Scrappers’ home games for new and existing account holders.
To enhance this collaboration even further, Scrappers fans can now have their own Mahoning Valley Scrappers credit card to use at the ballpark or anywhere. The card is part of the larger 717 CU Affinity Partners initiative to directly support local organizations with funds that return to those organizations.
With every swipe and purchase, 7 17 will donate 7.17 cents to the Scrappers for special programming such as youth outreach and ballpark improvements. Across thousands of transactions, that can add up to significant dollars to make a real impact. Cardholders will see benefits like a $25 gift card if they apply within 30 days, pricing incentives, and more.
In addition to giving back to local organizations, the 7 17 Credit Union VISA® affinity cards come with some of the lowest rates in the country and a low 7.17% introductory rate for all purchases and balance transfers for the first three months. Fans can apply for the MV Scrappers credit card by visiting www.717cu.com.
7 17 Credit Union President and CEO John Demmler said it best: “This is a tangible way to give back to our communities with everyday purchases and illustrates how banking local can send ripples of positive change throughout our community, with the simplicity of every swipe.”
Additionally, 7 17 is announcing its second annual Financial Wellness Night at the Ballpark. As it did in 2024, the credit union will buy out Eastwood Field to provide a night of free entertainment to the community. Last year, 7 17 sponsored the largest fireworks display in Eastwood Field's history. This year, the credit union plans to present the first-ever drone show at a Scrappers Game. Free hotdogs and soft drinks will again be provided for game attendees.
This year’s event will be held on Thursday, July 17. Tickets will be available exclusively through the Scrappers’ box office beginning on Monday, May 12, 2025. Members of 7 17 Credit Union can receive premium seating by presenting proof of membership at the box office, such as a debit or credit card or an account statement.
