A man of his word, Advancial Federal Credit Union’s President and CEO Brent Sheffield visited Klyde Warren Park on Friday dressed as the Pink Power Ranger. Sheffield had encouraged donations to his Real Men Wear Pink of Dallas County campaign by promising to wear the costume that earned the most support.
“I don’t mind looking silly for a great cause like The American Cancer Society,” said Sheffield, donning fuschia lipstick, a platinum blonde wig and enormous sunglasses. “We’ve raised more with this initiative through employee donations than we have for any other fundraiser before, so even though I have to wear spandex and high heels – it’s worth it.” Advancial employees and members raised almost $4,000 as they voted for their favorite costume.
Sheffield was greeted with questions and quizzical stares but quickly made friends as he toured Klyde Warren Park snapping selfies with beckoning motorists, passing out pink footballs and rose-colored sunglasses to the kids, and a small card explaining why he was dressed up and asking for donations to the rest of the park goers. Advancial employees filled out Sheffield’s posse, carrying “Real Men Wear Pink” signs, blaring Roy Orbison’s ‘Pretty Woman’ from a portable speaker and helping Sheffield navigate in those 3 ½ inch pumps.
The effort was a raving success – Sheffield met his personal goal of $10,000 and the Real Men Wear Pink in Dallas County campaign exceeded its goal of $50,000, raising over $75,000 for The American Cancer Society at its conclusion. Sheffield wasn’t surprised that the group had surpassed their target. “I know I’m not the only one that was completely dedicated to this effort,” he said. “With a strong group like this, it was almost inevitable.”
