Advia Credit Union encourages saving by giving teen new laptop

(March 25, 2014) -- “Amazing.” That’s what Tamara Faucher had to say about the surprise her 19 year old daughter Staci Paeth received at Advia Credit Union on Tuesday, March 4th. When the two of them arrived at the credit union that morning, Staci thought her visit was business related. Instead, she was greeted by Advia’s marketing department, who were eagerly waiting with balloons and a brand new laptop computer for her. Tamara, who’d been keeping the secret from her daughter, had tears in her eyes when the marketing team announced that Staci was their Bonus Bills Grand Prize winner. “You have no idea,” Tamara said, “this couldn’t have come at a better time.” Staci is a student at St. Clair County Community College, and is about to begin the radiology program.

Advia Credit Union’s Bonus Bills account is a teen savings account that uses rewards to encourage saving. Every $25 net increase to their monthly balance gets them an entry for a monthly gift card drawing and goes toward the grand prize, a new laptop, at the end of the year. “It’s Awesome,” said Staci, who was still shocked by what had just happened. With each paycheck, Staci usually puts about $50 in her checking account for spending, and the rest in her savings. Though she admits it can be hard at times, she offers this advice to anyone else trying to save; “Don’t spend your money on stupid things that aren’t really necessary.”

The Bonus Bills program is continuing this year and Advia Credit Union looks forward to rewarding more teens for saving their money. With 21 full-service branches, Advia invites everyone to experience the advantage by becoming a member. For more information visit www.adviacu.org.
