The Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco (FHLBank San Francisco) has announced that Crossroads Mission is a recipient of a 2022 AHEAD Program grant for $27,500.
AHEAD Grants are delivered through FHLBank San Francisco’s (www.fhlbsf.com) member financial institutions to local community organizations for projects and programs that offer benefits to lower-income and underserved communities. As an FHLBank San Francisco member financial institution, AEA Federal Credit Union worked with Crossroads Mission to apply for the grant.
“Education is a vital part of our personal and community success,” said Adele Sandberg, President and CEO of AEA Federal Credit Union. “Crossroads Mission understands how important education is and through their Academic Center in the Family Shelter, they are helping individuals achieve their goals and build bright futures. We are grateful that they were selected to receive $27,500 to support their efforts.”
Crossroads Mission (www.crossroadsmission.org) is a faith-based homeless shelter and drug and addiction recovery facility that has been serving the Yuma community since 1959. The Career and Academic Center in the Family Shelter is an adult education center that helps individuals obtain their G.E.D., apply for jobs, and access computer literacy courses and individualized tutoring. AHEAD will help pay for 10 new computers for 500 students to use to further their education and career goals.
“Supporting the goals of those we serve is very important to us,” said Myra Garlit, Chief Executive Officer. “Technology needs for a growing Academic Center are costly and the AHEAD Grant has made our vision a reality.”
The grant is part of a $1.5 million disbursement of AHEAD Grant funds awarded to fund 55 projects that will boost economic development activity and promote financial stability in communities throughout Arizona, California, and Nevada.
“We are pleased to support our member AEA Federal Credit Union’s partnership with Crossroads Mission with AHEAD funding,” said Marietta Núñez, senior vice president and community investment officer at FHLBank San Francisco. “The Mission’s Academic Center is a vital resource for adults in the community who are pursuing education on the path to changing their lives for the better.”
