A+FCU helps over 500 Boy Scouts earn Personal Management Merit Badge

AUSTIN, TX (June 19, 2017) — A+ Federal Credit Union (A+FCU) celebrates its 500th Boy Scout earning their Personal Management Merit Badge through the A+FCU Personal Management Merit Badge program. The milestone was reached during the Spring 2017 session.

“Scouting does the most good in the community when it works together with volunteers, organizations, and businesses with the integrity and commitment of A+ Federal Credit Union,” said Jon C. Yates, CEO and Scout Executive for the Capitol Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. “A+FCU’s financial education team has done a fantastic job of bringing our Personal Management Merit Badge to life in a way that engages our Scouts and helps them learn these critical life skills.”

Since 2010, A+FCU has partnered with the Capitol Area Council Boy Scouts of America to teach the Personal Management Merit Badge to Central Texas Scouts. The badge is required for Scouts to become an Eagle Scout and is usually one of the more challenging badges to earn. The Eagle Scout is the highest rank a Boy Scout can earn and has a multitude of requirements.

A+FCU’s program is completely online with a combination of live webinars and an online classroom. To earn the badge, Scouts must complete 10 requirements including a 13-week budget. They learn about smart shopping, saving and investing, borrowing and credit, time management, careers, and project management.

“A+FCU has a long history of providing financial education to our members and the communities we are in,” said Kerry A.S. Parker, A+FCU CEO. “We’re proud to provide this valuable program to the Scouts and partner with the Capitol Area Council Boy Scouts of America.”

The program is offered three times a year – Spring, Summer, and Fall. To learn more or sign up to be notified of future classes, visit aplusfcu.org/bsa.
