AFFCU to host free document shredding event

(Air Force Federal Credit Union) AFFCU is partnering with Health Texas and CPS Energy to help residents clean out their paper clutter and shred sensitive documents during a free Community Shred Day on Friday, April 22, 2022. The Shred Day will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at AFFCU’s Braun Pointe Branch at 9910 W Loop 1604 N STE 129, San Antonio, TX 78254.

Marshall Shredding will be onsite with a shred truck to securely shred and recycle confidential documents. There will be designated parking and dollies available to move boxes from attendees vehicles to the designated shredding station. Recommended materials include documents with financial, medical, and Social Security information, such as receipts, bills, insurance claims, tax forms, and financial statements. Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio, VIA, College Hunks Hauling Junk and other community partners will also be in attendance to talk to visitors about their services. Further event details can be found at GoAFFCU.com/Shred.

“Protecting the financial health of our members and community is important to the Credit Union. Scammers can seriously damage a person’s financial well-being with the smallest bit of information,” said Stephen Ynostrosa, Director of Community Relations for AFFCU. “Hosting our shared event is a great way for us to encourage the public to take preventative action to reduce the risk of identity theft.”

During the Community Shred Day event, paper-based documents will be accepted for free with a limit of four boxes or bags per person. There is no need to remove staples or paper clips.

In addition, secure destruction of hard drives will be provided for free by Goodwill San Antonio. Once wiped, the refurbished electronic devices will help qualified individuals overcome the digital divide with access to technology for work and education and eliminate hazardous e-waste in landfills.

“Offering the residents of the community and our members an eco-friendly and secure way to Spring clean by disposing of sensitive documents and electronics is a great way to celebrate Earth Day with AFFCU,” said Ynostrosa.
