AFFCU’s holiday food drive for Fairfield Emergency Food Pantry

BIRMINGHAM, AL (December 16, 2015) — The employees of America’s First Federal Credit Union collected 1,693 pounds of canned and dry goods to support the Fairfield Emergency Food Pantry. The items were collected to assist steelworkers and miners affected by the recent layoffs and facility closures occurring in the Birmingham area.

America’s First, formerly the Iron and Steel Workers Credit Union, was founded in 1936 as a financial cooperative for the workers at the Tennessee Coal, Iron, and Railway Company.

“Our credit union has deep roots in the iron and steel industry”, said Bill Connor, America’s First President and CEO. “We felt it was critically important to show our support for these individuals, many of whom are our members, who find themselves out of work at this time of the year.”
