Affinity Plus and Junior Achievement partner to provide financial education in Brainerd elementary schools
Students learn about the building blocks of personal finance from local financial services experts
ST PAUL, MN (March 31, 2016) — Throughout the month of March and into April, employees from Affinity Plus are visiting Riverside Elementary and Lowell Elementary schools to teach Junior Achievement’s (JA) elementary program curriculum, “Our Families” and “Our City,” to two classes of students. JA is a non-profit organization that partners with local community volunteers to teach financial literacy programming to students to help prepare them to succeed in a global economy. The partnership with Affinity Plus started in 2012, when Brainerd Branch Manager, Heather Backstrom volunteered to facilitate JA programming at Forestview Middle School. Backstrom immediately recognized the value in collaborating with a trusted organization like JA to bring real world learning into classrooms.
“We have daily conversations with members who tell us they wish they would have learned more about personal finance at a younger age,” said Backstrom. “While we have the products and services in place to help our members achieve their personal and financial goals, we also recognize that supporting efforts like those of JA can have a huge impact on the success of the young people in our communities, and we’re proud to be a part of this financial literacy initiative.”
