Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union officially broke ground, Friday, May 18, on a new Duluth credit union branch that will open by the end of 2018.
The groundbreaking was held at the site of the new community branch, 1820 Maple Grove Rd., less than one mile from Affinity Plus’ current location. The new branch will be located along Highway 53 directly across from Target and Best Buy, and just a half-mile from the Miller Hill Mall.
Affinity Plus has a strong commitment to the Duluth community, opening its first branch in 1993. Currently, the credit union employs nine individuals at its Duluth branch.
“For years our members have been asking about a new branch, and we’re so excited to be able to tell them, ‘Now’s the time!’” said Amanda Bruggman, Duluth branch manager. “Our Duluth branch serves a large geographic area, so the new branch – combined with Affinity Plus’ commitment to offer state-of-the-art technology and mobile banking – will give us the opportunity to have more personal interactions with our members and extend our service to even more people.”
The new branch will feature a multi-lane drive thru, spacious lobby and private meeting areas. It will also incorporate Affinity Plus’ new “next-generation” branch format, which features contemporary design and furnishings, expanded technology and digital marketing. This will be Affinity Plus’ second full build project with this new format.
“Branches are still vital to Affinity Plus, even as we move forward in this digital era,” said Taylor Murray, vice president of branch operations.
Murray noted that Affinity Plus launched a new mobile-banking app and online banking systems in April.
“We understand that a lot of our members want to self-serve as much as possible for their daily financial needs,” Murray said. “But when they have questions or need advice and support, they often want to talk to a person they know and trust.”
Affinity Plus is working with Minnesota companies on this project, including The Boldt Company of Grand Rapids, Minn., as the general contractor, several local subcontractors, and HTG Architects of Eden Prairie, Minn.
Affinity Plus serves approximately 6,000 members in Duluth and its surrounding communities. It is a full-service financial institution with a robust suite of personal savings, checking and lending options, as well as student loans, estate planning and retirement planning services, and an investment center not paid on commission.
