Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union Stands Strong Against Debit Card Fees
ST. PAUL, MINN. (Oct. 14, 2011) – Recent news of big banks’ plans to add monthly debit card usage fees for everyday purchases has left consumers confused, angry and demanding a change. Putting frustrated Minnesotans at ease, Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union is proud to continue offering all of its members debit cards that carry no usage fee.
“Our philosophy is to put our members first, which means that delivering the best possible products and service to them takes priority over our organization’s profits,” says Kyle L. Markland, President/CEO at Affinity Plus. “The Affinity Plus Visa® Debit Card doesn’t carry usage fees. Our members shouldn’t have to pay a fee to spend their own money.”
In addition to offering fee-free debit cards, Affinity Plus rewards members for using their debit cards through the credit union’s Participation Rewards Program. Members earn points for each transaction, which can be cashed in for loan rate decreases, used to skip a loan payment, or turned into monetary donations to local charities.
“Our members work hard for their money, and it’s our responsibility to focus on doing what is right for them by helping them keep their money where it belongs, with them,” says Markland.
In response to the recent news of banks adding monthly debit card usage fees, Affinity Plus has expanded its “Ditch Your Bank” awareness campaign to include billboards, radio and newspaper ads that question the new fees. Launched on Friday, Oct. 7, the ads can be seen and heard throughout the Twin Cities on digital billboards and radio stations, and in newspapers.
“Minnesotans shouldn’t feel like they’re held hostage by financial institutions that continue adding new fees, charges and rate increases,” says Markland. “The advertising response is our way of telling consumers that we sympathize with them, and that they have an alternative when it comes to where they do their banking.”
