Affinity Plus Foundation announces 2015 academic scholarship winners

ST. PAUL, MN (April 23, 2015) — In its continuing efforts to provide financial education and outreach to Minnesota youth, the Affinity Plus Foundation awards five, $5,000 academic scholarships to incoming freshmen, upperclassmen, nontraditional students, and masters/doctorate student members.

Since the inception of the scholarship program, the Foundation has awarded $300,000 in scholarships to students who are members of Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union.

“The level of talent and ambition all of our applicants displayed was absolutely incredible, and the number of applicants continues to rise each year,” shares executive director, Amy Hanson. “Although it’s extremely difficult to select recipients, we are honored to announce this year’s five students, and are excited to see where their academic dreams take them.”

Introductions for the recipients of the 2015 Affinity Plus Foundation Scholarship are provided below:

Amrita M., Woodbury, Minn

Amrita is currently a senior at Woodbury High School, President of the WHS National Honor Society, recipient of the Minnesota Scholar of Distinction in Science 2014, and a volunteer for the Science Museum of Minnesota and Woodwinds Hospital.

Annie S., Rochester, Minn

Annie will be attending the University of Pennsylvania in the fall majoring in Biology, while continuing to bring her passion of music to the Rochester community through accessible live classical concerts.

Eric S., Bemidji, Minn

Eric has served as a clinic volunteer in Cape Coast, Ghana, and is currently in his third year at Bemidji State University in the nursing program.

Alison V., Minneapolis, Minn

Alison graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Statistics and Economics, taught math as a Peace Corp volunteer in Guinea, West Africa, and is currently a student at the University of Minnesota pursuing a degree in Education.

James E., Minneapolis, Minn

James is an educational professional, entrepreneur, and currently a student at Hamline University pursuing a Master’s degree in Education.

The Affinity Plus Foundation will begin accepting applications for its 2016-17 academic scholarship beginning September and recipients will be announced in the Spring of 2016. The application will be available at all Affinity Plus branch locations, and online at affinityplusfoundation.org/Scholarship.
