The Affinity Plus Foundation announces 2016-2017 scholarship winners

Fifteen $5,000 scholarships awarded to Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union members

ST PAUL, MN (April 14, 2016) — Since 2001, the Affinity Plus Foundation has awarded over $300,000 in scholarships to support the educational endeavors of Affinity Plus members. In celebration of its 15 years of giving, the Foundation awarded fifteen $5,000 scholarships for the 2016-2017 school year.  Applicants were evaluated on leadership, community involvement, extracurricular activities, academics, and a personal essay. Over 500 applications were received, with 15 winners being selected by a scholarship committee.

 “Putting our application online increased the availability of the program,” said Foundation Executive Director, Amy Hanson. “We were proud to see so many quality submissions. The character and commitment of our winning applicants showcases the amazing things our members are doing in Minnesota communities and we are excited to support their efforts and celebrate their future successes.”

 In light of the Foundation’s mission to enhance the quality of life in Minnesota communities through financial education, programming, and support, applicants were asked to write a brief summary of what financial literacy means to them. Many students working toward a degree are faced with high tuition prices and a variety of other educational expenses, making it a challenge to easily obtain their education.

 “Thank you to the Affinity Plus Foundation,” remarked Dylan Kelly, 2016-2017 winner. “This scholarship will go a very long way in reducing the financial burden that comes along with chasing my dreams!”

To have fun with the announcements and fifteenth anniversary celebration, individual winners were posted on the Foundation’s website and credit union social media channels, one per day, beginning March 15.  We are proud to announce the winners of the 2016-2017 Affinity Plus Foundation Scholarship:
