After over half century of service, two longtime Buffalo Metropolitan Federal Credit Union board members announce retirement

It takes commitment and perseverance to dedicate over a half century of your life to a movement you believe in, and Mr. Frank J. Mazur Jr. and Mrs. Patricia H. McManus did just that.

Buffalo Metropolitan Federal Credit Union Board of Directors, Frank J. Mazur Jr. and Patricia H. McManus, have announced their retirement after more than fifty years of service! Their leadership, enthusiasm, and commitment to the credit union philosophy “People Helping People,” had a direct impact on the community of Buffalo, NY, the members and staff of Buffalo Metropolitan Federal Credit Union, and their fellow Credit Union Board members. “What a milestone of longevity and exceptional dedication to Buffalo Metropolitan Federal Credit Union’s members, staff, and community to commit over 50 years of your life,” states Buffalo Metropolitan Federal Credit Union’s CEO Jeanne Stadler. “We are all grateful for Frank Mazur Jr. and Patricia McManus’ leadership, guidance, and friendship over the years.”

Frank J. Mazur Jr. dedicated 59 years to Buffalo Metropolitan as a Board of Director. Mr. Mazur was the President, which he held for the last twenty-one years, at the time of his retirement. He also held the positions of Treasurer, 1st, and 2nd Vice President.

One of Mr. Mazur’s greatest attributes to Buffalo Metropolitan and the community was helping Credit Union members with financial hardships. Buffalo Metropolitan is in an area that has a household income level far below the national average and many people in the community with financial troubles are declined loans at traditional borrowing institutions. That is where Mr. Mazur came in, as a member of the Credit Union’s Credit Committee for nearly twenty years, he dedicated his time to meet with Credit Union members to review loan applications one-on-one. Many members were able to get financing at the Credit Union and improve their financial wellbeing from the help and guidance of Mr. Mazur.  Mr. Frank J. Mazur, Jr. has been an admired role model and leader to his peers and the Credit Union family.

Mrs. Patricia H. McManus started her career at Buffalo Metropolitan right out of High School, beginning as a Teller. In After thirty-four years of working at the Credit Union, Mrs. McManus was named Manager of Buffalo Metropolitan. At the time Mrs. McManus was Manager, everything was done manually. As technology improved, Mrs. McManus made sure she kept herself up to date to better serve the members. One such example, loans were always written by hand until Mrs. McManus utilized new computer technology and implemented it at the Credit Union to enhance the speed, process, and organization of the loan process.

During her time as Manager of Buffalo Metropolitan, Mrs. McManus helped build the Credit Union by increasing the assets from $27 million to $32 million, a 19% increase, and building the Credit Union loan portfolio by 25%. Mrs. McManus also received the highest CAMEL rating with the NCUA.

Upon her retirement, Mrs. McManus was elected to the Board of Directors as Secretary. With her time as an employee and a member of the Board of Directors, Mrs. McManus had committed 65 years to Buffalo Metropolitan Federal Credit Union and to the credit union movement. In 2009, Mrs. McManus was inducted into the Credit Union Hall of Fame.

Frank J. Mazur Jr. and Patricia McManus have been influential in the success of Buffalo Metropolitan Federal Credit Union. Without their knowledge, dedication, and leadership, Buffalo Metropolitan would not be where it is today. “Frank Mazur Jr. and Patricia McManus will always be remembered for their unwavering devotion to our members, staff, the community, and success of Buffalo Metropolitan Federal Credit Union. All of us here at Buffalo Metropolitan Federal Credit Union are sad to see them leave, but we are happy for them to enjoy their retirement,” says Buffalo Metropolitan Federal Credit Union’s CEO Jeanne Stadler.
