Air Force Federal Credit Union receives America Saves Designation of Savings Excellence for Credit Unions

SAN ANTONIO, TX (May 20, 2016) — On Wednesday, May 18, 2016, Air Force Federal Credit Union (Air Force FCU)  received the America Saves Designation of Savings Excellence for Credit Unions, a designation from America Saves that recognizes credit unions that go above and beyond to encourage people to save money during America Saves Week. America Saves and credit union leaders are recognizing credit unions that do exceptional work to promote savings among their members and communities.

Air Force FCU hosted 18 free financial classes in February attended by over 900 individuals, on such topics as “the importance of saving money,” “Retirement Planning” and “Basic Investing.” We communicated and engaged them in all channels, including a huge social media campaign. In addition, we provided a special 3.00% APY share certificate exclusive to active military members.

“The credit union understands the importance in educating our military men and women, and their families, about fiscal responsibility,” Bob Glenn, President/CEO stated. “We are proud and privileged to be able to provide these services to our military. It has been our mission for over 63 years and will continue to be moving forward.”

Air Force Federal Credit Union, along with the other recipients of the Designation, were recognized at the America Saves National Savings Forum and received the Designation of Savings Excellence award. “For years, banks and credit unions have participated in America Saves Week by offering products and services that encourage individuals to save money and build wealth,” said Nancy Register, National Director of America Saves. “America Saves launched the America Saves Designation of Savings Excellence in 2015 that recognizes credit unions that go above and beyond to promote and support saving during America Saves Week. This year we are proud to recognize and announce the second group of credit unions that achieved this designation.”

America Saves Week is an annual opportunity for credit unions to encourage individuals to save money – with an emphasis on reaching low- to moderate-income families. America Saves is recognizing exceptional credit unions that succeed in promoting savings or other wealth building accounts and have high levels of accounts opened or added to during America Saves Week 2016.
