LOWELL, MA (April 14, 2014) –- Align Credit Union is pleased to once again celebrate National Credit Union Youth Week. Held every April, Youth Week is designed to emphasize the importance of financial literacy for children and teens. By learning sound money management and the importance of saving at an early age, children have a greater chance of developing into fiscally responsible adults. An important part of this process is learning about personal banking in a real-world context.
Align has a long history of supporting its youngest Members. The Credit Union offers a number of youth account options including New Baby and Super Saver Savings Accounts, a Starter CD and Student Checking. Each account is designed to mirror Align’s adult offerings with special features and incentives to accommodate the unique needs of each age group. In honor of Youth Week, from April 21st to 26th any existing youth account holder who brings a recent report card to an Align branch will be given an extra $10 deposit into their account. With Summer job season on the horizon and many students preparing to begin college in the Fall, this is also an ideal time to open a new youth account. Align is also offering a number of opening incentives to help put children and young adults on the right path.
To help youth achieve their academic goals, Align is also offering a scholarship for Members pursuing higher education. Over the past 20 years, Align has awarded over 225 scholarships to deserving youths in the community. The program is open to graduating high school seniors and current college students pursuing an undergraduate degree. Applications for this year’s program are due by May 6th.
