Allegacy Federal Credit Union announces 5K event to benefit The Center for Smart Financial Choices

WINSTON-SALEM, NC, (August 19, 2014) -- Allegacy Federal Credit Union, one of the largest credit unions in North Carolina, will host its first Retro Run 5K at Tanglewood Park on Saturday, November 1, 2014.

The ‘Making Strides For Financial Fitness’ event will benefit The Center for Smart Financial Choices (The Center), a non-profit assisting consumers with the skills necessary to more effectively manage their money, credit, debt and financial planning.

The event will include a 5K route for runners, followed by an interactive course for those out for a day of fun and entertainment. There will be games for all ages, including special décor, music, costumes and dances as participants run through moments in time and see snapshots of different decades starting in the 50s.

“Allegacy is committed to helping our members and the community make smart financial choices,” said Cathy Pace, Allegacy CEO. “The Retro Run will provide a fun, interactive way to learn and spread the financial fitness message. We know families are still struggling to make ends meet, so by empowering them with better financial knowledge and teaching children critical savings techniques before they enter adulthood, our communities can only be strengthened.”

Better financial habits are one reason Allegacy started The Center in 2012 at its headquarters located at 1691 Westbrook Plaza Drive, Winston-Salem. “Our goal is to help individuals establish healthy financial habits wherever they are in life, young, old or just starting out with their first job,” said Betty Ann Falkner, The Center education program manager. “With this information, the chances are greater that these new financial habits become second nature throughout life. An event like the Retro Run is exciting and we hope folks in the community will learn some helpful financial facts.”

Participants may register for the Retro Run 2014, Making Strides for Financial Fitness at any of Allegacy’s Financial Centers or online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/making-strides-for-financial-fitness-a-retro-run-registration-5600471160.
