Allegius Federal Credit Union celebrates a half-century of service

BURNS HARBOR, IN (July 7, 2016) — At its board meeting in May, Allegius FCU marked its 50th anniversary with a board/employee reception, a champagne toast and plaque presentations from the League and CUNA. League President John McKenzie attended the event to make the presentations. The credit union is also offering giveaways and prize drawings over the summer for members.

The credit union started on the kitchen table of its founders, and was chartered in April of 1966 as Bethlehem Emplys. Federal Credit Union, which changed to Bethlehem Employees Federal Credit Union in 1977. The credit union became Allegius FCU in 2003. The initial field of membership was employees of the Bethlehem Steel Company and their immediate families. There are now more than 20 companies whose employees and union members are eligible for membership.

“Since our founding, the credit union has seen exponential growth in membership which is now over 15,000; assets are more than $160 million,” said CEO Ken Zagrocki. “After 50 years, our commitment to providing our members with the financial products and services they need, delivered the way they expect, is still strong. We look forward to the next 50 years.”
