SAN JOSE, CALIF. – December 29, 2011 – Alliance Credit Union got into the spirit of the season of giving by handing out $20 credit union Visa® gift cards to 40 random people during two nights of the Christmas in the Park event in downtown San Jose.
It was another Make a Difference event for the San Jose-based credit union. The Make a Difference mission is to surprise people with random acts of kindness and to spread generosity throughout the community. On December 20 and 22, Alliance CU team members did just that by giving out 20 gift cards on each night. Each gift card was inside a holiday greeting card with the following message: We hope your holidays are filled with all the joys of the season and we’re able to make a difference in your day. There’s no better time to spread goodwill and generosity throughout our community. So enjoy this gift card with our compliments. Please spend it locally and support small businesses.
“We’ve held a $1 bill giveaway and treated people to lunch, but since it’s the holidays, we thought it would be nice to make a bigger impact on a few families in our community,” explained SVP of Marketing & Retail Delivery Emily Condon. “We thought perhaps they could use it for last-minute gifts, help with groceries, or even pay it forward and make a difference in someone else’s life. All of this was with no strings attached, as with the previous Make a Difference events; we just wanted to put a smile on a few faces this holiday season.”
Many of the recipients were indeed pleasantly surprised and one even used it to serve others. In an email to the credit union, the recipient thanked the staff for the event, and said she and her daughters “used the $20 (with some added from their piggy banks) at Toys R Us this morning to buy gifts for kids at the San Jose Family Shelter on Las Palmas Ave. It was a generous and unexpected gift that we turned into another unexpected gift. Thank you for helping remind both me and my girls about the true meaning of Christmas. “
