(Riverside, Calif.) Sept. 28, 2011 – Altura Credit Union recently announced that it has “adopted” five schools as part of the Moreno Valley School District’s “Adopt-an-MVUSD-School” program.  Altura has “adopted:”  Edgemont Elementary, Northridge Elementary, Moreno Valley High School, Valley View High School and March Valley School/March Mountain High School.

“Many people may not realize that Altura Credit Union has a strong connection to education,” said Trisha Rudd, Altura Business Development manager.  “We began in 1957 as a credit union for school employees, so our ties to education are strong and deep.

“In the current economic environment, schools are facing difficult budget cuts, and programs like this one help not only our schools but the students attending them,” she added.

The Adopt-an-MVSUD-School is co-sponsored by the Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce, which supports the idea that a good education makes sense for the business community, and that a collaboration like this gives educators a better awareness of the needs in the business world.

Businesses that adopt a school can help in many ways.  Most schools develop their own “wish” list, including things like reading to kindergarteners, participating in career day, sponsoring attendance incentives, and leading holiday food drives.

“Our educational institutions play a vital role in the lives of local families.  The role also has a wider impact on the community at large,” Rudd said.  “Altura wants to do what we can to help our schools in these challenging times.”
