Altura Credit Union’s Scholarship Foundation Awards $42,000 in College Scholarships

Local grads Receive $1,000 scholarships

(Riverside, Calif.)  June 4, 2012 – The Altura Scholarship Foundation, the educational foundation for Riverside-based Altura Credit Union, announced that it is awarding $42,000 in college scholarships to seniors graduating from Riverside County high schools this year.

Of the scholarships awarded, 30 are directly from the Altura Scholarship Foundation; five of which were specifically granted to students in AVID programs.  Two memorial scholarships also were awarded.  An additional 10 scholarships will be awarded in August to graduating seniors planning to attend the University of California, Riverside.

In total, the Foundation is awarding 42 scholarships of $1,000 each to 42 students graduating from Riverside County high schools who plan to enroll in accredited post-secondary institutions in the fall.  This year 248 students applied for the Altura scholarship.  Since its inception 20 years ago, nearly $350,000 has been awarded to local students to help defray the cost of pursuing higher education.

Scholarship recipients are selected based on their academic record, and an essay detailing their college goals, financial need and extracurricular activities.
