Amato to Chair 2012 United Way Community Campaign

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, March 13, 2012 — Charlie Amato, Chairman/Co-founder of SWBC, has been named the 2012 Campaign Chairman for United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County.

With more than 35 years of experience in all aspects of insurance operations, underwriting, and product development, Amato is known in the business community for his innovative, relationship-building approach.  An active participant in a variety of charitable and civic activities, Amato has been a long-time member of United Way’s Board of Trustees.  He succeeds Curt Anastasio, president/CEO of NuStar Energy.

“The breadth of services provided by United Way agencies and partnerships is unparalleled and so is the generosity of our community,” said Amato.  “I look forward to working as this year’s campaign chairman.”

United Way Pacesetter campaigns begin in May and run prior to the kickoff of the full, community-wide campaign to set the campaign tempo and to generate enthusiasm, support and leadership.  The United Way community campaign will kick off with a luncheon on Thurs., October 18, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

United Way has more than a 70-year tradition of helping people with basic needs – food, clothing, and shelter– and improving the lives of Bexar County children and families through investment in strong, well-managed programs. United Way also engages the community to get to the heart of problems, focusing on improving early childhood education, helping students succeed in school, strengthening families, and transforming neighborhoods into safe, revitalized communities.

The 2011 United Way campaign raised $48,018,892.  Through United Way’s 2-1-1 Help Line, which assisted over 459,129 callers in 2011, its partner agency programs and community initiatives, United Way has been helping local children, individuals and families since its inaugural community campaign in 1940.
