American Heritage Credit Union donates over 7,350 books to local charities
PHILADELPHIA, PA (November 14, 2017) — Members and employees of American Heritage Credit Union recently donated over 7,350 new books to local hospitals, community centers, and special care facilities.
In its eighth year, the “Books for Kids” program allowed members of the Credit Union to become “Book Buddies” for a donation of $3, placing a plaque with their name inside each donated book. The program collected over $14,409 resulting in a donation of over 7,350 books. The books were then delivered to the Busia Orphanage located in Kenya, Blue Bell Mission Kids, St. Mary’s Medical Center, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Hunting Park Boys and Girls Clubs, Bridesburg Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bucks County, the Ronald McDonald House and Grand View Hospital.
A special donation of 5,800 books was given to the “Reach Out and Read” program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, which promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms by giving new books to children and educating parents on importance of reading aloud.
American Heritage employees made a visit to CHOP’s Karabot’s Center Pediatric Care Center located in West Philadelphia to drop the books off for the center. They were given a tour of the state-of-the-art facilities and learned about how their donation impacts the community and the patients in the center. They also toured their Health & Wellness Garden, which American Heritage assisted building. The Garden serves as a resource for patient and community engagement programs that provide hands-on education in gardening and healthy nutrition.
