American Heritage Federal Credit Union donates over 6,380 books to local charities
PHILADELPHIA, PA (November 13, 2015) — Members and employees of American Heritage Federal Credit Union recently donated over 6,380 new books to local hospitals, community centers, and special care facilities.
In its sixth year, the “Books for Kids” program allowed members of the Credit Union to become “Book Buddies” for a donation of $3, placing a plaque with their name inside each donated book. The program collected over $8,000 resulting in a donation of over 6,380 books. The books were then delivered to the Busia Orphanage, Blue Bell Mission Kids, St. Mary’s Medical Center, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Hunting Park Boys and Girls Clubs, Bridesburg Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bucks County, and Grand View Hospital.
A special donation of 5,330 books was given to the “Reach Out and Read” program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, which promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms by giving new books to children and educating parents on importance of reading aloud.
American Heritage employees made a visit to the Karabot Center at CHOP to drop the books off for the center. They were given a tour of the gorgeous facilities and learned about how their donation impacts the community and the patients in the center.
