GLENDORA, CA— Running enthusiast and Director of Human Resources Richard Mathews of America’s Christian CU completed the SacTown Credit Union 10-mile Run For The Kids at the state Capitol on April 1st, raising $400 in charitable contributions for the Children’s Miracle Network. The credit union added the proceeds to its CMN fund, which continues to support the care of sick and injured kids at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and other affiliated children’s hospitals.

This run was the latest in a series of charitable efforts by ACCU, which places a high priority on outreach and support within their community. In January, President/CEO Mendell L. Thompson presented a check for $14,428 to Michael Sandler, Senior Associate Director for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The funds will benefit both CHLA and Children’s Hospital of Orange County. All of the funds were raised by the team at America’s Christian (ACCU) who held a variety of fundraisers last year to generate support for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

America’s Christian CU participated in a series of events to uplift the community during the holiday season as well. One such event was the Shoes That Fit effort hosted and coordinated by Central City Community Outreach. ACCU staff raised funds for 61 pairs of shoes, hundreds of baby wipes, dozens of packets of hot chocolate, and other food. The total raised by all partners was 670 pairs of new shoes, 744 used shoes/clothing items, and gifts of cash and meals that resulted in the feeding of 978 people and sent 334 Boxes of Love to families on L.A.’s Skid Row so they could have a special holiday meal with their families. Host Melissa Champion said, “Thank you so much for all that you did … All of your generous donations and eager volunteers truly helped to make this event possible!

ACCU staff also bought gifts for nearly 30 needy children at the Homework House, a free tutoring and extracurricular program offered near one of their branches. Also last fall, staff participated in an “Adopt A Block” outreach effort and Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway event through a partnership with The Dream Center Los Angeles. In mid-November, ACCU hosted and participated in a neighborhood blood drive with Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital, coordinating over 30 blood donations among staff and members.

Thompson explains, “It is truly our joy to participate in our community with these charity efforts. I appreciate our board, management and staff for their wholehearted support of fundraising on behalf of those less fortunate. I’m humbled that our stewardship of charitable funds through our various fundraising campaigns can help make a difference in their lives.”
