America’s Credit Union Museum honors former board chair with dedication of new exhibit hall

MANCHESTER, NH (February 9, 2024) — America’s Credit Union Museum (ACUM) is proud to announce the dedication of its main exhibit hall in honor of Gordon A. Simmons, visionary leader, and former board chair who served the Museum for more than a decade during its formative years.

A passionate advocate for preserving the credit union movement’s history, Simmons’ dedication and significant gift towards future expansion and upkeep of exhibition spaces made the hall naming possible. The “Gordon A. Simmons Exhibit Hall” officially opened on February 7, 2024.

“With profound gratitude, we dedicate this exhibit space in honor of Gordon A. Simmons,” said Stephanie Smith, executive director of ACUM. “His extraordinary generosity and strategic guidance paved the way for unprecedented growth and success. His enduring legacy as a dedicated steward of our mission continues to inspire and elevate our organization.”

Simmons himself shared his hopes for the Museum’s future: “May the America’s Credit Union Museum continue to prosper in its historic role as the site of the roots of all American credit unions,” he stated. This quote is also embodied on the commemorative plaque, along with the Museum’s dedication to him and his photo.
