America’s First Federal Credit Union (AmFirst), alongside partner ABC 33/40, today announced that it raised $26,675 and a total of 20,672 food items — roughly 222,626 meals — during its Feeding Families Across Alabama Food Drive, held July 6-31. All efforts benefited the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama.
“The Feeding Families Across Alabama Food Drive was AmFirst’s way to proactively ensure those in need of food — and more so given the pandemic’s effects of food supply chains nationwide — prompted us to take action,” said AmFirst CEO and president, Bill Connor. “We are so appreciative to ABC 33/40 and station leaders who worked so hard alongside us to make this happen.”
During the monthlong drive, non-perishable food items were welcomed for drop-off at any one of AmFirst’s 21 Alabama locations. In addition, monetary donations were accepted with funds going straight into the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama account.
Of the $26,675 in monetary donations collected, AmFirst donated $10,000.
“When you look at what we were able to accomplish in one month, you get the sense of how people — regardless of the pandemic and the adversities it has brought on — truly want to help others in need,” added Connor. “And that is something that all of us can celebrate, even at this uncertain time in history."
