Andrew Price named new head of advocacy

Promotion brings opportunity to lead WOCCU's international Advocacy efforts

MADISON, WI (June 3, 2019) — World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) is pleased to announce the promotion of Andrew Price to Vice President of Advocacy—putting him in charge of advocating on behalf of the global credit union and financial cooperative movement at the international level.

Price will lead WOCCU’s advocacy work in front of various international standard setting bodies, including the:

  • Basel Committee on Banking Supervision.
  • Financial Action Task Force.
  • International Accounting Standards Board.
  • Financial Stability Board.
  • European Union.
  • United Nations.
  • G20.
  • Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion.

In today’s financial regulatory environment, many financial rules are set by those bodies—often giving national regulators little discretion to deviate from international standards once they are finalized.

Serving as World Council’s regulatory counsel since 2017, Price has been part of advocacy efforts that have succeeded in reducing regulatory burdens for credit unions in areas such as capital requirements, regulatory reporting, anti-money laundering, taxation and accounting standards.

“If you’re going to effectively advocate on behalf of credit unions at the international level, having both an understanding of the global issues that affect us at the community level and relationships with those who set the standards at the global level are critical for success. Andrew is very familiar with the key international regulatory bodies and has been effectively advocating on behalf of credit unions in front of them since joining World Council. I have every confidence he will increase our momentum to stop regulatory burdens before they arrive at the national level and to ensure support of credit union features such as the cooperative structure,” said World Council President and CEO Brian Branch.

Price brings years of diverse experience at the credit union, league, regulatory and national level to his new role. He was previously general counsel for First Commerce Credit Union, a 50,000-member financial institution based in Tallahassee, Florida. Price also engaged in advocacy and lobbying for credit unions at both the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and the League of Southeastern Credit Unions.

In the public sector, Price worked for the prudential bank, credit union and finance regulator in the State of Florida (Office of Financial Regulation)—and served as a cabinet aide to Comptroller General Robert F. Milligan. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Florida State University College of Law—teaching consumer finance law for their online Juris Master program.

Price holds his Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies from the University of Central Florida. Additionally, he is certified as a Bank Secrecy Act compliance specialist, a credit union compliance expert, and a credit union enterprise risk management expert.
