Apple Federal Credit Union Expands Membership

FAIRFAX, Va., August 19, 2010—It’s official! Thanks to a recent membership agreement with Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS), more than 7,500 system employees will return to ready their schools for the 2010-11 academic year with the added benefit of Apple Federal Credit Union’s top-shelf financial products, services and resources.

“It is with great pleasure that Loudoun County Public Schools’ acknowledges a partnership with Apple Federal Credit Union,” says Kristi L. Hurd, high school specialist for LCPS Department Personnel Services. “This partnership will assist with fiscal education of not only our employees, but our students as well.”

“This agreement was a logical next step for Apple,” says Robert Sowell, vice president of community relations for Apple FCU. “We were already servicing the more than 60,000 LCPS students within the system, offering them a dedicated and competitive catalogue of Credit Union products. It just made sense to extend this same courtesy to the faculty and staff guiding their educations. We’re excited by this partnership and look forward to offering all those touched by education in Loudoun County the chance at A Better Grade of Banking.”

Approved by the National Credit Union Administration earlier this month, the partnership makes more than 7,500 LCPS employees eligible for Credit Union membership. These employees join a unique fraternity of nearly 37,000 other Northern Virginia public school employees across the region who can count access to Apple FCU as a benefit of their current vocation. These education professionals help guide more than 337,000 students to academic success each year. Loudoun is the second county public school group to partner with Apple in the past year. In December 2009, the Credit Union opened its doors to Prince William County Public School employees, students and their families.

Apple’s commitment to the Northern Virginia education community isn’t strictly reserved for public school system, however. The Credit Union also serves more students continuing their education at George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College, as well as the faculty and staff employed by these institutions.
