Ardent Credit Union awards ten local high school students scholarships to pursue their higher education

Bucks County native, Carolyn Stoughton, is heading off to Penn State University this fall with scholarship from Ardent Credit Union

PHILADELPHIA, PA (September 14, 2016) — In July 2016, Ardent Credit Union awarded scholarships to 10 local high school seniors to help them continue their higher education. Ardent’s President and CEO, Rob Werner, Chair of the Board of Directors, Gloria Wilson, VP of Marketing, Diane Childs, the Ardent Credit Union Scholarship Award Committee, as well as the award winners and their families, attended a luncheon to celebrate the 6th Annual Ardent Credit Union Scholarship Award that was held at The Great American Pub in Conshohocken, PA.

The top prize was awarded to Carolyn Stoughton who’s attending the Pennsylvania State University this fall. Carolyn was a very worthy recipient of the Ardent Credit Union Scholarship Award. “I balanced a total of three different jobs in high school, which included being a dance student teacher, a cashier, and a waitress. These jobs helped me develop strong leadership skills, along with teaching me how to work in a working environment,” Carolyn said. “I am also a competitive dancer, an activity that requires strong commitment and dedication. Additionally, I was involved in the Sheppard Project at my high school, Central Bucks High School South. This volunteer organization raised money to provide gifts, gloves, school supplies, and any other necessities to a local elementary school in Philadelphia.” Pursuing a major in psychology and minor in Spanish, Carolyn sees herself working with criminal profiling in 10 years. Her goal is to graduate from college and then go on to receive her doctorate in forensic psychology.

In keeping with the credit union philosophy of people helping people, and Ardent’s continuing advocacy for financial wellness, the credit union awarded $11,500 in scholarships to members who are determined to continue their education. High school seniors who demonstrate academic excellence, participate in volunteer organizations and/or hold part-time jobs were among those chosen to receive a scholarship. All applications were reviewed and scored by the Ardent Scholarship Award Committee.

Additional scholarship winners included Jose Asencio, attending Temple University, Lauren Bules (Johns Hopkins University), Meghan Coppo (Millersville University), Sean Hullihan (University of Notre Dame), Julianna C. Kardish (Harvard College), Michael Sisko (Pennsylvania State University), Breanna Riddick (The George Washington University), Poojan Thakkar (University of Pittsburgh), and Kyle Yorke (Southern Illinois University).
