Argent Credit Union awards $5,000 in scholarships

CHESTER, VA (May 9, 2017) — Argent Credit Union is excited to announce the winners of its Ruby A. Robinson annual scholarship program.  The two recipients this year are Jessica Lynn Yanoschak and Billie Jade VanStory. These deserving young credit union members were awarded $2,500 for their academic, leadership and community involvement achievement.

Jessica Lynn Yanoschak currently attends the Math & Science High School at Clover Hill.  As a student in the mathematics & science magnet school, Jessica has been immersed in an environment of stimulating academics across the primary curriculum during her entire high school experience.  She has taken a uniquely competitive course load with 8 AP classes all awhile maintaining top performing GPA.

In addition to Jessica’s remarkable academic accomplishments, she has also been inducted in the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, National English Society, Beta and Latin Clubs.  Awards received include the Principal’s Academic Award, Special Recognition at the Clover Hill Science Fair for outstanding research on the topic of Computer Science, WISE Financial Literacy Certification for proficiency in personal finance and Junior Marshal based on academic merit.

Jessica’s community service and volunteer activities includes the Richmond Animal League, Bandit’s Adoption and Rescue K9s.  She too, has volunteered with math tutoring as well as mentoring incoming freshman as they make their transition into high school.

Jessica will be attending Virginia Tech in the fall where her field of study will be Industrial Systems Engineering.

Billie Jade VanStory attends Midlothian High School where she is a student of the esteemed International Baccalaureate program. The program offers a rigorous (All Honors & IB Classes) and expansive curriculum in which Billie has graciously embraced and excelled, given the challenging course load and sustained a top ranking GPA among her peers.

Billie is a member of the Virginia A Justis Chapter of National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Math National Honor Society, Social Studies National Honor Society, Forensics National Honor Society and the National Junior Classical League Latin Honor Society.

Additional honors and awards include: Acceptance to the Governor’s Latin Academy, National Forensics League-degree of excellence, Midlothian High School Swim Team-athletic Letter, Interfaith Council Brotherhood/Sisterhood Youth Award

Billie’s extracurricular activities comprise of the Latin Club, Forensics Speech and the Gay Straight Alliance.  Community service and volunteer work includes Children’s Activities Coordinator, Homework Helpers, Vacation Bible School Art activities and coach/coordinator of the Minnows Program at Bayhill Pointe Swim Team.

Billie will attend the College of William and Mary in the fall where she plans to study Neuroscience and law.

The Credit Union’s scholarships have been designed to commemorate 30 years Ruby A. Robinson dedicated to the Credit Union as one of the first employees.  Argent Credit Union has awarded a total of $149,000 in scholarships since the program’s inception in 1993.
