Arlington ISD joins the Texas Trust Spirit Debit Reward program

Spirit Card now offered in all school districts in Texas Trust's membership area

ARLINGTON, TX (December 9, 2015) — Arlington Independent School District (AISD), the 11th largest school district in the state, has signed on as a Spirit Debit Reward partner of Texas Trust Credit Union. The school district will earn 10 cents every time a cardholder uses an Arlington ISD Spirit Debit card.

Texas Trust has designed six unique cards, one for each of Arlington’s traditional high schools. Money raised from the Spirit Reward card will be used to help fund a new outdoor performing arts area, which is scheduled to be built within the next nine months.

Arlington ISD is the sixth school district to join the Spirit Debit Reward program since its inception in 2011. Texas Trust has donated more than a million dollars to its current school district partners based on the number of times the Spirit cards have been used.

In the four years that the Spirit Debit Reward card program has been offered, Texas Trust has found that cardholders in the program use their cards four to five times more than cardholders with a traditional debit card.

“Texas Trust has continuously demonstrated a sincere interest in the success of Arlington’s schools and students,” said Dr. Marcelo Cavazos, Superintendent of Schools for Arlington ISD. “This program offers our employees, parents and the community a tool to manage their money, while simultaneously benefiting our students.”

Arlington ISD will receive funds based on the Spirit card usage. The cards are available to any current member of Texas Trust or to new members who open a checking account with the credit union. There is no fee for the Spirit Debit Reward card and it can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted.

“We are excited to have a role in funding the new outdoor performance area for Arlington ISD,” said Jim Minge, CEO of Texas Trust Credit Union. “The Spirit card allows us to give a portion of our earnings to the community, which is part of our mission of building brighter financial futures.”
