Arlingtonian Resident Shines in the ‘People Helping People’ Award

ARLINGTON, VA –Arlington Community FCU has selected Leni Gonzalez as the winner of its5th Annual People Helping People Award.

Each year, the ‘People Helping People’ Award recognizes an individual who exemplifies and demonstrates actions that address a critical need in helping those who are underserved in the Arlingtoncommunity.  This year’s winner, Leni Gonzalez, was recognized for her efforts with the Shirlington Employment and Education Center (SEEC) located on Four Mile Run in Arlington. The center, in its 11th year of operation, not only serves as a central point to employ workers, but also provides individuals with basic necessities such as food, education and training.

Leni was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Shirington Employment and Education Center (SEEC) twelve years ago, and for the past three years has been the Chair of the organization.  As described by her nominee, Leni’s “marvelous work with the Shirlington Employment and Education Center has provided an organized process for hiring day laborers, as well as providing basic necessities such as food, education, training and work to help individuals become productive members of society, breadwinners for their families and participants in the American Dream.

The winner of the ‘People Helping People’ award receives a cash prize and a donation to the charity of their choice on behalf of ACFCU.  Ms. Gonzalez selected the SEEC to receive the donation, and her cash prize.
