Associated Credit Union Foundation contributes over $500,000 to surrounding communities
NORCROSS, GA (February 24, 2016) — Associated Credit Union is dedicated to the embodiment of the “people helping people” credit union mission. Their 501(c)3 Associated Credit Union Foundation, established in 2009, has become an avenue through which both members and employees get the chance to be a part of something bigger than themselves.
Associated Credit Union recognized the dire need for these funds within the community, and knew that they could do more than just stand by and watch. From this mission to serve others, one of the first credit union foundations in Georgia was born. The ACU Foundation’s goal is to touch the lives of those within the surrounding communities of Metro Atlanta and Augusta, and to expand the reach of those that they benefit both socially and economically.
“There are three pillars of the credit union that make us successful,” says C. Lin Hodges, CEO and President of Associated Credit Union. “Our staff, our members, and our community all need to be equally flourishing to keep us running smoothly and continuing to provide excellent service.”
By working with local charitable organizations, the ACUF is able to distinguish an even greater span of people and families that can use their helping hand. Since its establishment, the ACUF has donated over $500,000 in funds and contributions to the charities they dedicate their time to: Norcross Co-Op, Quinn House Ministry, United Military Care, Wilderness Works, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Child Enrichment, Inc, National Center for Civil and Human Rights, Susan G. Komen, and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
“We are only as healthy as the community that we work in,” says Mark Waller, COO of Associated CU, “So we strive to find charitable organizations where we can have the most positive influence.”
The ACUF feels they have a social responsibility to do all that they can to help the community thrive. It is very important to them that the needs of the community are met, which is why 100 cents of every dollar that they receive goes towards these charitable organizations. They are a trusted advisor, and ensure that 100% of the proceeds from the Foundation go towards the causes they support; whether it be breast cancer, military families, underprivileged children, or just helping people to get back on their feet.
In addition to fundraising, the ACUF promotes the importance of volunteerism. Employees of Associated CU are given a service day each year to donate time to a charity of their choice. Associated CU employees are hired not only for their skill set, but because they have a heart for service and an intrinsic desire to give of their time to those in need.
