Award winners honored at CUNA HR & Organizational Development Council Conference

MADISON, WI (April 27, 2017) — Kristen Davidson, Lauren Coleman, Ellen Davis and seven credit unions were honored for their achievements in HR and organizational development in a ceremony at the 2017 CUNA HR & Organizational Development Council Conference, which was held April 19-22 in Las Vegas.

“Choosing winners for these honors is always hard because of the overflowing HR and organizational development talent in our industry,” said Jennifer Huggard, chair, Awards & Recognition Committee, and vice president administration, Northwest Credit Union Association, Seatac, Wash. “Ultimately, we chose to recognize the candidates who most clearly demonstrate how our field helps credit union professionals realize their potential.”

  • Kristen Davidson, training & development manager, Consumers Credit Union, Kalamazoo, Mich., won the Professional of the Year Award. Davidson was recognized for her ambitious professional and organizational development initiatives that have dramatically increased employee satisfaction and engagement at Consumers.
  • Lauren Coleman, HR payroll coordinator, Smart Financial Credit Union, Houston, Tex., won the Rising Star Award, which recognizes and honors an emerging professional in the credit union industry who has a focus on HR or organizational development. Coleman was recognized for her many accomplishments during her young career at Smart Financial, including redesigning the HR Board Report, creating financial education programs for members and staff, and educating employees on the new brand.
  • Ellen Davis, AVP HR, Gerber Federal Credit Union, Fremont, Mich., was presented with the Top Community Contributor Award. This award recognizes value and expertise shared with peers through collaboration within the Councils Community member networking platform.
  • Best of Show – Excellence in HR & Organizational Development Awards, Innovative Staff Development (Assets $500M-$1B): Rivermark Community Credit Union, Beaverton, Ore., for their Aspiring Leaders Program. Developed to meet staff demand for professional growth, the program created opportunities for employees to develop leadership skills within their roles and reduced turnover by nearly half.

  • Employee Engagement (Assets Less than $499M): Universal 1 Credit Union, Dayton, Ohio, for their U1 Value Integration & Change Management.
  • Employee Engagement (Assets $500M-$1B): University of Michigan Credit Union, Ann Arbor, Mich., for their UMCU Orientation and Onboarding Program.
  • Employee Engagement (Assets More than $1B): MSU Federal Credit Union, East Lansing, Mich., for MSUFCU Involved.
  • Innovative Staff Development (Assets $500M – $1B): Ardent Credit Union, Philadelphia, Pa., for their Ardent MBA Cohort.
  • Innovative Staff Development (Assets More than $1B): OnPoint Community Credit Union, Portland, Ore., for their SOAR Leadership Program.
  • Management Practices (Assets $500M-$1B): Ardent Credit Union, Philadelphia, Pa., for their Ardent Wellness Program.
