Battle Creek Chapter of Credit Union’s hosted lunch and learn
BATTLE CREEK, MI (December 11, 2015) — The Battle Creek Chapter of Credit Union’s hosted a Lunch & Learn with featured speaker, George Franklin. The luncheon was held at Kellogg Community Federal Credit Union in Battle Creek on November 23rd and the topic was: “Lobbying – what they forgot to mention in business school.” Amongst those who attended the event were Kari Bearman, State Legislative Coordinator for the Michigan Credit Union League, as well as many credit union executives, and board members from all of the area credit unions.
George A. Franklin is president of Franklin Public Affairs LLC, a government relations firm established in April 2005. Previously, Mr. Franklin was vice president – worldwide government relations for Kellogg Company. During his 25 tenure with the Company, he served in many different positions. In August 2014, he released his first book entitled Raisin Bran and Other Cereal Wars which highlights his 30 years of lobbying for the most famous tiger in the world.
Mr. Franklin gave an engaging presentation based on his many years of experience in politics, and in particular, lobbying, which is important for the credit union industry. Credit Unions work collaboratively with elected officials to stay abreast of local, state, and national issues. Lobbying helps credit unions represent the best interest of our industry as well as our members, which in turn, builds a stronger financial base for Michigan.
“We were honored to have Mr. Franklin share his experience and knowledge with us,” stated Linda Williams, the Battle Creek Chapter’s Legislative Representative. “The Michigan Credit Union League encourages all credit unions to get involved in advocacy and build relationships with state and federal legislators. We hope everyone who attended our Legislative Lunch & Learn were inspired by Mr. Franklin’s message and are motivated to continue to play an active role in advocating for credit unions.”
