Reading, PA – On May 20, 2012 the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association held their 36th annual Youth Ambassador Contest in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the Wyndham Grand. Thirteen young, enthusiastic credit union employees and members ranging in age from 17 to 25 from around the state competed for the title of “2012 Youth Ambassador”. Representing the Schuylkill Valley Chapter of Credit Unions was Emmanuel “Manny” Mercado , a Member Service Representative at Bellco Federal Credit Union.
Mercado, 23, is a resident of Reading and a graduate of Fairview Christian School and Pace Institute. He has been employed at Bellco for two years at the Bellco’s Front Street Branch in Reading.
The Credit Union Youth Ambassador of Pennsylvania Contest is actually a three-step process. Each participating credit union selects one candidate to compete in a chapter-level contest. Chapter winners, or Chapter Youth Ambassadors, compete during the State Finals, held as part of the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association’s Annual Convention, where the Youth Ambassador of Pennsylvania is named. Contestants are judged by the results of a written examination, an informal meeting with the judges and a short oral presentation during the contest itself.
Thomas Gosling, CEO of Bellco, said that he was very proud to have an employee compete in this year’s contest and that Mercado was a perfect representative of the friendly professional staff at his credit union.
Bellco Federal Credit Union is the second oldest credit union in Berks County. For over 74 years, Bellco has continuously striven to provide quality products and services to foster the financial well-being of its members. Bellco has offices in Wyomissing, Reading and Sinking Spring.
